We walked out of our last Quarterly Presentation on January 28th with a very long list of items we loved! In addition to being excited about these new ideas, we also recognized that waiting for Quarterly Presentations had actually become a cog in the machine. Why stockpile great ideas for months, then suddenly scurry to push them all through our survey platform?
So, we fixed it.
The new and improved ASOTV “machine” is constantly running! Seriously.
How? Basically, we now have mini ASOTV presentations every week so the process is more fluid.
There are now 6 phases: Submissions come in and undergo an Initial Evaluation. Select ideas are then presented to our experts and ayes/no Vote determines if it will move on to the next phase or not. This voting now occurs every single week, rather than once per quarter. Those that receive a “yes” vote will be prepped and sent through our proprietary Survey System. Based on the results of each survey, a select few will move on to a round of Web Testing, and based on those results, a select few make it to TV Testing, then the ultimate Launch and retail “roll out”. Learn more details about each of the 6 phases here (link to FAQ’s page that explains all phases).

Don’t worry, we DO still get together together for a Quarterly meeting!
Our next meeting will be June 3rd, where we will recap and review everything from the ASOTV Q1 search and ongoing Q2 search. Since we now vote on ideas every week, this meeting will not be a formal “presentation” as it was in the past. Instead, this meeting will serve as valuable time to recap all results from the past 3 months, discuss product development of those items moving forward, and strategize more ways to keep improving.
How fast does this “machine” work, exactly?
Many of you ask about the timing of our phases, and, truthfully, the answer varies depending on what’s going on in the system. The ASOTV business is all about timing, so, we may have a month when there’s four items that need to be prototyped for web-testing ASAP, or we may have a month where nothing surveys well at all, which means we’ll be catching up on the rest of the list. No matter what, we’ll do our best to keep you posted in this thread.
We have completed 100% of the surveys for all items on the Jan 28th quarterly list (stay tuned for an update on those), and have already begun surveying many submissions we’ve received since then. We’re on track and continue moving along every day.
Timing In GENERAL TERMS: INITIAL EVALUATION
- The Initial Evaluation can take anywhere between 4 to 8 weeks.
VOTE
- A select number of ideas are voted upon every single week. The amount of time that your idea is in the “vote” stage depends on how many other ideas are in the queue at the same time.
SURVEY
- Once your idea gets a “yes” vote and reaches the Survey phase, it will be prepped and surveyed within about 4 to 6 weeks and may be re-surveyed based on new information we gather.
WEB TEST
- Once your idea reaches the Web Test phase, it will be prepped and deployed within about 3-5 months. This may be shorter or longer depending on how many other items are web testing at the same time, and how much development needs to happen in order to fabricate a working prototype.
TV TEST
- Once your idea reaches the TV Test list, you can expect to see it on TV within about 6-9 months. This time is necessary to fabricate multiple camera-ready samples, gather and edit footage, and secure media spots.
LAUNCH
- Launching an item into retail stores has many factors and varies widely depending on the product. We will be in direct contact with you about timeframes at this point.
We hope you’re as excited as we are for these changes to the As Seen on TV Process. You can expect to see a brand new look and feel for your As Seen on TV Dashboard in the coming months. Until then, check out the information provided on your current dashboard to understand where you are in the ASOTV process.
Happy Inventing!

An update to our update! Anyone who currently has an idea active in an ASOTV search will have an update to their dashboard on current status. Just click on "View Full Details" on your submission to access this information! Going forward, whenever there is news or movement on your product, we'll be updating you on your Dashboard and you'll receive a notification via email that you have new feedback. Best of luck to all!
Excellent initiative! Thanks EN
Sounds great and exciting...thanks team!!!
Very Cool! Looking forward to following my ideas up and through G8
I LIKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!! It is the perfect next iteration of the Edison Nation ASOTV process. Congratulations on a job well done and a culture of continuous innovation.
This is very exciting news! Taking EN to another level! :) Great job.
Awesome Michelle! I like the private feedback. So would your dashboard be at g7 or g8 before you start the surveying?
Hi Aubrey! The existing 8-stage process does not fit with the new six-stage ASOTV model, which is why we are going to be redesigning it for your Dashboards - this is in progress, but will take time to perfect. Typically, ideas that are in survey are in Stages 5 or higher in our current system. But, we advise all active ASOTV participants to go by the feedback provided on their Dashboard for an accurate look in the interim. Best of luck!
Definitely makes the process more dynamic. Thanks guys!
Hey guys! Wanted to check in with a quick update following our June 3rd meeting! All Dashboards have been updated with applicable information and movements. We have three ideas going to survey next week and several more in queue! We'll continue to keep you updated on your Dashboards whenever there is news about your specific concept! Best of luck to all!
HI Michelle, I'm confused by the new process. So if this week someone enters an Q2 ASOTV Search idea what happens next based on how the current dashboard is set up??
Hi Ken! We are updating Dashboards weekly based on the product evaluations. Until the new ASOTV Dashboard is deployed, for all active ideas, we are providing ongoing feedback as they move from stage to stage. The place to keep watch is your "comments" (found by clicking on "View Full Details" on your Dashboard. When you have a new comment from the EN team, you'll receive an email notification. "Green is good" still applies, but we are working each week to ensure all ideas are updated with details of their current status as we hear back from the evaluation and ASOTV teams. Hope this clarifies and best of luck!
Hi Michelle, Appreciate the response. It Kinda answers my question.. specifically, my ASOTV-Q2 submission has been sitting in Stage 1 for 5 days and in the past, steps 1 and 2 would usually move same day or within 1 or 2 days. So, I am wondering if the new process now slows down the review for the old process in anyway? Thanks
Hi Ken, The new process should not be slowing the movement of any ideas. That being said, the timing for each idea moving through the evaluation process varies depending on the idea, level of IP, etc. We'll review the submission itself and if there is additional information we can provide, we'll update your dashboard. Otherwise, as long as the idea is green, it is under active review. Thank you! Michelle
K J, The "new" ASOTV Search process has an initial stage that is quite different than the first stage of the Open and Sponsored Searches. In the Open Search, the first check mark really just signifies that EN has successfully received your product idea submission and that it fits the criteria of the search. The first stage of the now six rather than eight stage ASOTV process is described as an "Initial Evaluation" that "can take anywhere between 4 to 8 weeks". The new process isn't slower... there are two less stages and the process itself is different and not accurately reflected by the 8 stage graphic on your dashboard. Until that graphic depicting the new 6 stage process is updated, I wouldn't try to make sense of your submission's status based on its progress on the older 8 stage graphic. Your idea may be in Stage 1 for another 3 to 7 weeks while it progresses through the new Initial Evaluation.
Chip. That helps. Thanks!!!
Hey guys and Happy Friday! A quick weekly recap following this week's ASOTV meeting! One product has been selected to move forward with web testing, one idea is being surveyed for a second time and two ideas have been selected for surveying! All dashboards have been updated! Best of luck to all!
Hello to all! An update from our weekly ASOTV call! Three products that were surveyed unfortunately did not score well enough to move forward for web testing. But, the good news is that three products are slated for filming for TV testing in the next month or so! All dashboards have been updated!
Hi Celeste! Please send me a direct message with the details of your submission and I'll request an update from the review team. Thank you!
I had one stuck at 6 for about 6 months, but 2 years is a bit much... I love your pic Celeste - it always looks like you're having fun!
Hey guys! Here's the ASOTV scoop this week! First, a congratulations to Alli G! One of her ideas has successfully surveyed and is now being developed further for future web testing! On deck for next week's surveys are ideas from: Aaron Travis, Olugbenga Oredein and Karin Nieuwoudt! Best of luck to all and we'll continue to note movements in this forum thread! ASOTV dashboards are being updated through the remainder of the week!
Thanks for the process explanation Michelle. I didn't see an IP evaluation included and would assume that it's done (Initial and Final) in the ASOTV Initial Evaluation. Also, is as much importance placed on IP with ASOTV as it is with other searches?
Hi Buck! IP evaluation is always of utmost importance no matter the search category. We want to ensure ideas are protected (or able to be protected). IP review is done in the initial evaluation stage. Best of luck!
Hey guys! Here's the ASOTV scoop this week! A follow-up from last week's announcement, Aaron Travis' idea is going to be resurveyed based on initial survey results. On deck for next week's surveys are ideas from: Matthew Bowler, John Corbin and Jamie Adtkins! Ideas from Bruce Rubin and Jay Brown have been selected for voting for survey consideration! Best of luck to all and we'll continue to note movements in this forum thread! ASOTV dashboards are being updated through the remainder of the week!
Wow! This is a fun topic with a lot of inspirational updates! Best to all those who are passing all the tests!!!
Yes, good luck! This new system is first class, thanks!
I agree, this is great getting these updates! Best of luck to all!
Hey guys! Here's the lowdown on ASOTV this week! Due to the large success of Michael Diep's Emery Cat product, the ASOTV is refreshing the product concept and sending it through for a web test! In other news, the Q3 ASOTV search is now open! Do you want to be the next inventor we feature in this thread? SUBMIT NOW!
I for one can say I hope refreshed concepts from past successes do as well as the first time around ;-) ;-) ;-)
I still have the 7 steps on my ASOTV dashboard. The new system has 6 steps. If I have a G3 does that mean it passed the survey? Thanks
Until they update with the new asotv dashboards, stage 1-4 correlate with stage 1 of the asotv process. So if you get a G4, then your idea will be voted on. If the vote is yes, then you get a G5 and go into survey. Your idea will have to be voted on before it goes to survey, and EN will notify you if it's been selected for a vote. You'll get an email that you have new feedback, and if you go to your submission, there will be a note from EN saying it's been selected for voting. If it passes, you'll get more comments that it was selected for survey, etc.
Hi Rob! Confirming Alli's response is correct. The new ASOTV Dashboard is under construction and will be launched within the coming months. Until that happens, we'll be updating all selected concepts via direct comments to the dashboards. Best of luck!
I gotta agree with Frank... he's not any where near as pretty as Michelle is. 8 ! (grin)
Oh gents, thanks so much for the kind words this morning! Richard, Frank and William are correct, you are free to submit your idea into as many applicable searches as possible - good luck!
Hello to all and Happy Monday! On the docket this week for voting are ideas from Kathleen C and Therese Martin! ASOTV dashboards are being updated over the next few days! Best of luck ladies!
Best of luck Therese !!! Kathleen... rootin' for ya girl. root_Root_ROOT !!!
Thank you MIchelle! Thank you Sir William! Best of luck, Therese!
Ooooh, congrats and good luck, Kathleen!!!
Yeah...a little while, Frank. I decided to get back on the rollercoaster. LOL
Go girls!!! Wishing you the bestest!
Go girls!!! Wishing you the bestest!

I know I keep asking questions about this because it's confusing me. Right or wrong? The difference between the level guide on the 8 step and the ASOTV 6 step is for example...you have a G2 on the 8 step and it means (as always) you have passed level 2 and pending on level 3. And on the ASOTV 6, if you have a G2 it means you are pending on level 2 but you don't pass level 2 until you get a G3? Right? Wrong? Confused? Want me to shut up? ...Williamj need not answer that last question. Sorry Michelle....I know I thought I understood you PM explanation, but I soon found out I'm still confused because the scale seems to say one thing, but the feedback seems to say something else and I've been out in 100 degree weather all day and my mind is melting and I have melted ear wax dripping on my shoulders...Someone bring me some snow!
By George I think I've Got It! After going all the way back and reading through all of these comments. It is now my understanding that Level 2 Voting is where they vote to see if it goes to survey. And Level 3 Survey is the actual Survey. It's as clear as the nose on my face...why was it so difficult? It's pretty much self-explanatory...geesh...some people like to take the scenic route!
Hi Kathleen, No worries - when in doubt, refer to the comments provided on your Dashboard for active submissions as the new stages are not going to match up with the current eight-stage evaluation process. The web team is building the new functionality out now and once it launches, it will be clear. Until then, please don't hesitate to send me a private message to inquire or review the messaging provided on your Dashboard to check progress.
Thanks Michelle...You're the bestest!
Hey guys! Here's the ASOTV lowdown for this week! A concept from James Smythe has been selected for voting AND a concept from William Barham that is currently in TV Testing is going very well! The ASOTV team is in the process of refining the spot for further testing. All ASOTV Dashboards are being updated today - remember, click "View Full Details" on your ASOTV submissions to get the latest status for your active ideas. Happy Inventing and good luck to all!
Hi Kleopatra! With regards to TV Testing, there are different thresholds for different types of items. There are metrics that are applied to each idea that reaches testing on TV, and once that testing is over, the EN team will continue to keep you updated on whether or not the concept was a success on your Dashboard. If TV Testing is successful, then there would be a full retail rollout. Products would not go into stores if they are not successful. Hope this clarifies!
Hi guys, yes, as outlined in the Innovator agreement, if a product is launched at retail, the royalty percentage is 7.5% of the adjusted gross revenues.
Hey guys! Here's the ASOTV scoop for this week! Alli G is rocking the ASOTV search category with another submission headed to Survey! Congrats Alli! Submissions previously announced from Jared Joyce and Rachel Peters that are in Web Testing should be ready to start testing in two weeks - the web tests themselves will run for three weeks! Dashboards are being updated now for all active ideas. Have a great week!
That's it. From now on, I'm making all my prototype videos in my lucky Star Wars pajamas :D
Congrats Alli...Jared...and Rachel!
Awesome news! Congrats to all involved
Congratulations Kathleen and Therese!! Kathleen, Great to see you in the news. May this one go all the way Alli....You again:) Way to go Any news with the Sheet tammers? Congrats Rachel and JJ
Thanks Charlie...But, I've already been chopped from this one. However, I have entered another one that was chopped from a previous search...so...I'm still trotting along!
Thanks, Charlie! I really just don't like doing chores :P Sheet Tamers is still chugging along like the little engine that could. For now I'm just a mouse hoping I can grab that cheese before the trap comes down :D
Alli, if anyone can do it, you can!
Kathleen, sorry to hear that. Hang in there it will happen. Alli, Keep the great ideas coming. good job My sheets came off last night again and thought I could sure use a pair of those tamers.
You could always get some superglue and posterboard and copy the prototype. Mine worked for a year and a half until the glue finally started coming off ;)
always thought, even tho I don''t always agree with my thinking...Sheet Tamers would be easier
Very true, Charlie! (I of all people understand the desire for easier!) I was just trying to help you out in the meantime ;)

Thanks Michelle and Alli and good luck on your ideas going forward, Alli and Brian! This old blind squirrel found a few peanuts this week. Haha!
Michelle, does that mean all ideas up for voting didn't make the cut? Or is there a waiting list of ideas to vote on?
Hi Chad! Voting is on a rolling basis, some have moved forward, others are still pending. We update all Dashboards each week. You can review the most current status of your idea by going to the idea on your Submissions page. Best of luck!
Nice! I just received notice that I'll be getting a little cheque for making it to Web Testing. Thanks, Michelle and ASOTV! Hoping for the best! Rachel.
Apparently Edison Nation wants to stuff some money in an envelope and mail it to me for a successful survey! Well, I'll take it! Thanks EN :)

Way to go, Rob! I'm thinking we need an inventor Q&A with Brian McLoughlin so he can share his creative process with us :)
Hey Alli! Maybe we need an update...Q&A with Brian McLoughlin
Ahhhh, thanks Michelle! I see from the date that's when I was first starting back to college and on an EN hiatus ;) That was a great interview!

hi dear EN community! i would like to ask you about ASOTV !I have an idea but i don't know how to create it.its about cloth orgnizer.if i submit my idea can i have help how to make it possible?actually i am hesitated can i explain it here as an idea or i should submit it on survey as Asotv? thank you for help ..all the best for everyone ..happy inventing day
Good Luck to all of you in the voting process!
Hi Datevig, In full agreement with Frank - if you are interested in submitting an idea to the ASOTV search, please complete an idea submission and opt it into the ASOTV search for consideration. Best of luck!
Datevig ~ In addition to the information/advice given by Frank and Michelle, you may want to think about the potential customers for your product idea. ASOTV products must appeal to a fairly larger audience. There are many ASOTV products that are related to cooking because everyone has to eat! Even though folks may have different hobbies and interests, it's a fair bet that most spend at least a little bit of their time in the kitchen. I suggest you take a step back from you idea to decide if it is something that has a chance of appealing to a wide range of people of differing ages. If not, it may not be right for the ASOTV category and you may have better luck submitting it to the Open Search. Just a thought. Good luck.
thank you frank ,thank you Michelle for your advices.and yes chip you are right may be my idea doesn't fit Asotv criteria!i will rethink about it.thank you and happy day for all

The only side effects Ive noticed are the desire to float around in the ocean and zap stuff with my taser.
Oh, I feel that way all the time, so no problems then!!
I didn't think you would mind by the looks of that 50K volt taser on your shoulder. Start with half doses cuz I fried my last computer on a R7!
Hi Michelle Since this one ends at midnight tonight, when will it resume? Thanks!
Hi Rob! The Insider Search with the ASOTV Insider success fees is closing, but the Q3 ASOTV search is still going strong. Insiders who successfully pass the Survey, Web Testing and TV Testing phases in the Q3 search are still able to earn success fees. Best of luck to all!
Hey guys! A quick reminder...please be sure to include ALL disclosures of where your concept has been previously shared within your submission. We ask this of all submissions, but it is particularly important for ASOTV submissions, especially if they have been shown to other ASOTV companies before they have been submitted to EN. If you have disclosed the product to another direct response company before submitting, please also include information on the results of that pitch for our team. Many thanks to all and we'll be updating this week's stats on Thursday.
HI MICHELLE I HAVEN'T BEING ON THE SITE IN A LONG TIME BUT JUST PUT AN INVENTION OUT THERE AND GOT X OUT AT STAGE 4. I HAVE SHOWN OTHER PARENTS THE PRODUCT AND THEY LOVED IT BECAUSE IT ISN'T IN THE BABY STORES AROUND, SO I AM DISAPPOINTED BUT NOT OUT.

Congrats Alli!!! You are on a roll girl!!! And congrats to all those moving through the process! Also Michelle, I LOVE the new feature on submissions where it re-verifies each page of the submission form from idea to attachments to intellectual property each and every time we submit the product. That way we know exactly what the EN review team is seeing.
Thank you for the feedback Jill! Glad you like it!!!

Hey Michelle, under this platform, what would be the commensurate Insider Point values for each phase? Is that information posted somewhere? Thx!
I was wondering the same thing Saletta. Thanks for asking.
Hey Derrick, Wasn't sure whether it had already been addressed.
Hi guys! Wanted to get confirmation of these point values before responding - please see below: Evaluation = 250 Vote = 750 Survey = 2500 Web Test = 5,000 TV Test = 10,000 Launch = 50,000 Points are awarded upon successful passing of each stage.

Hi Eduardo! We have innovators who are currently TV Testing and several Web Testing.
Hi Eduardo, as these are products in progress, we cannot discuss details on the public forums. When the testing is complete and we are at liberty to share publicly, we will post updates in the forums and on the blog. This is true for not only ASOTV products but all products that are finalists in our searches.

Hi, Kleopatra, If it hasn't been rejected at Stage 4 in the other search, then they probably haven't completed evaluating the idea at Stage 4. Depending on the idea and the search, the evaluation time may vary. Also, getting rejected for ASOTV doesn't mean an idea will be rejected in another search. ASOTV has its own specific requirements that they're looking for that are unrelated to other searches, so EN wouldn't tell anyone to drop their ideas just because it's not a fit for TV. On that same note, a utility patent isn't required to submit your idea or find success through EN, so they also wouldn't tell you to drop your idea until you have a patent because it's not true. The answer to both your problems here comes down to simply being patient. And one of the best ways to get your mind off of pending submissions is..... to work on more ideas!! It passes the time AND creates more opportunity for success :)

Apologies for the delay in response Kleopatra but I can absolutely confirm Alli's statement. Just because an idea was declined from one search does not mean it may not be a fit elsewhere. As long as it is green, it is still actively being evaluated. Best of luck!

Hey guys! We've got ideas from Jill Kelly, Elena Evans-Chumsky, Nicholas Paul Franko and David McCutcheon going to vote this week! Best of luck guys!

One additional update for today, Robert Pontius has an idea that has moved to survey!
Hi Eduardo, We have ideas that are currently in TV Testing - once a product makes it past TV Testing, it would be deemed a success and announced on our Blog. TV Testing in general takes time, as many times a spot is modified following initial results for retesting, etc.
Hi Eduardo, It is up to you to opt the ideas into any searches you feel they would be applicable.
Hi Eduardo, Confirming Frank is correct - the All Category search is for all categories of ideas, not all encompassing for all of our searches.
