I"m trying to create a program that will be useful for medical professiionals but I have no technical know how of computers , all I have is the idea of how the program should work from the point of the end user

How can I convey this in techincal terms to a programmer ? or do I just need to explain them the idea and they will then work on forming the patent

will I be able to apply for a software patent even if my only contribution was an idea from the point of the end user ? please help
