Should Edison Nation accept for FREE Corana Virus related inventions

taterdog1's Avatargold

I currently dont have an invention idea, but I do have a suggestion that EN should accept Corona virus invention ideas at a reduced rate or free. This virus is very dangerous and spreads so fast and easy. Any type products that help comfort and or heal people at this time is greatly needed! All opinions appreciated TY

Company to Distribute Hand Sanitizer, Respiratory Masks and Additional PPE to Address COVID-19

BETHLEHEM, Pa, April 07, 2020 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Edison Nation, Inc., a multifaceted ecosystem that fosters innovation and drives IP, media and consumer products, announces that it has launched its new operational division, Edison Nation Medical, for its new line of health and medical products and to address product demand surrounding COVID-19.

The Company recently announced the acquisition of HMNRTH Nutraceutical’s line of Cannabidiol health and wellness products as well as five proprietary cleaning products developed by Synertech, Inc., all of which will be included within Edison Nation Med’s pipeline of products.

The Company has also entered into a distribution agreement for hand sanitizer through several US factories and has received an initial purchase order of approximately $1.85 million. Edison Nation’s longstanding relationships with large scale retailers and entertainment venues provides the perfect synergy for the new distribution enterprise.

“By leveraging our decades of experience in overseas sourcing of high-quality products, we felt the need to focus certain sourcing operations to meet the current demand for medical supplies by our clients,” said Edison Nation Chief Executive Officer Chris Ferguson. “Additionally, we are procuring products on behalf of state and local governments to assist them during the COVID-19 pandemic. Edison Nation Med will allow these entities to have a consistent and verified supply chain, which will allow them to concentrate on the pandemic and Edison Nation Med to support their needs.”

The Company plans on launching Edison Nation Medical’s online portal for hospitals, government agencies and distributors in the coming weeks. Additional information on Edison Nation Med’s products will be available at www.edisonnationmedical.com.

I am wondering if this would be done by a separate submission or could we request a current submission be entered into this category? I sent in a submission not long age and hope it will be useful, not only now but long into the future. I think it may be, as it would also appear this crisis may bring about a change in the way we would do some fairly normal things from here on out.

Hey Harlan.  As an Insider, you can submit (opt in) an existing submission into multiple searches at the same time.  The only time that you SHOULD NOT submit it to another search is if it's in G7 status in a search, which would mean that a sponsor is actively reviewing the idea, or that EN is actively pitching the idea to prospective partners.  This is the only time when it is not ok to submit it another search simultaneously. I'm not sure, but the system may not even allow you to submit it elsewhere if it's in G7 status.

If you have an idea currently submitted in another search, that you think might be useful in battling COVID-19, then by all means submit it, as long as it's not in G7 status.  Since there is no specific COVID-19 search, then either submit it to the ALL CATEGORY search or to the CONSUMER HEALTHCARE search.  Hope this helps.

Regarding the topic of whether EN should offer free submissions for COVID-19 related submissions, there are two sides of the coin.  On one side of the coin, some might view charging for COVID-19 related submissions as profiteering in a time of crises, which is a bad look.  On the other side of the coin, free COVID-19 related submissions might prompt people to mindlessly submit multitudes of poorly though-out submissions, in the hopes that EN can somehow make sense out of them and perhaps one idea would stick.  I know I said that there are two sides of the coin, but a third side, if you will, is that if free submissions were accepted, some people would see it as a way to submit any idea to EN, even if it has nothing to do with COVID-19, just to get the idea in front of EN.  This happens even with paid searches, where people will, for example, pay $25 dollars to submit an idea for a new toaster, to a search that is specifically looking for pet ideas.  If this happens with paid searches, then the floodgates would be wide-open for a free search.  This would bog down the review process, and when that happens, nobody wins.  I initially thought, that free COVID-19 ideas might not be a bad idea, but after giving it some thought, I don't think it is a good idea.  With all of that being said, I did recently submit a COVID-19 related idea for free, but it was by using one of the free submission coupons that I had accumulated.  You get free submission coupons for things like being nominated for Inventor of the Month, for responding to special events that EN sponsors (such as visiting EN's FaceBook page and posting something), and you now get 4 free submissions upfront every year if you choose the annual subscription option or 1 free submission with every 4 consecutive months of monthly paid subscription (which means 3 per year).  Sorry if that ended up sounding like a commercial for EN, but I happen to think it's a good perk.......anyways, all things considered, I'd rather see paid COVID-19 submissions, through the ALL CATEGORY or CONSUMER HEALTHCARE searches, and EN can address the appearance of profiteering issue, by doing something like donating a substantial number of the successful inventions, or by donating a certain percentage of profits from said invention to organizations benefiting first responders or essential workers....just my 2 cents worth (ok, maybe 20 cents worth :)

Thank you Derrick for you response. After a bit of thought, I have decided to just let my submission sit where it is. It has been moved up a notch and is being reviewed. If it is selected to be considered for the Covid-19 category, I will be most pleased. I think it may be best to leave this to the judgement of those looking at it's possible potential in any market. I feel that things should be tested to stand on their own merit and potential, just like people.
