I had an idea for a stand up wheelchair but I never really got into it to have an actual finished design. Not anything like the one in the video but served the same purpose. I like how they figured how to still use the drive wheel in the standing position.

Nice find James, thanks.

It is cool, but I see problems with it...  primarily the angle that the user is forced to turn the wheels from is awkward and will result in arm & shoulder injuries.

I watched the video right after it, called "this device will make wheelchairs obsolete", and it was really neat!  Like this one on steroids, and there was no wheel turning required.  I can see that it may have limitations too, though.  Great for those that can use it.  I'm glad that they're making cool stuff for Veterans, like the chairs with tank tread that can go anywhere. Now those are cool!!

That is interesting as well as the other stand up wheelchairs that YouTube provides after the video ends.  I have not thought of a standing type wheelchair, but while searching those wheelchair videos,  I came across a video of one that is similar to an idea I have been thinking of for some time. This guy is an engineer at MIT. My design would be even much simpler, I think. Can't tell you how. Its a TED Talks video.

Interesting, Ken!  So many creative people working for those in need. Wonderful!

it looks a great idea I am wondering what it would be like with a real chair bound person in it .my head is thinking that the weight of the persons body and the lack of lower body muscles in the legs would make you sag and the straps may cut into the arms . I may be totally wrong or may it help strengthen in some way your lower body over a paried of time . Thanks for sharing James interesting .
