It seems room #4 at Edison Nation was rumored to be a link to the fourth dimension…. and I heard from a good source (actually made it up) Edison Nation kept having trouble with people getting room #4 confused with room #3 and people going in for a break and never coming back out.

I’m kinda afraid about this room #5 deal!!! Frank you go first!!

To get everybody in the spirit of Room 5, I thought I’d share some photos from around the office from now until 2:00!

We just might have the best parts bin on the planet… rows of shelves of these guys. I’ve fixed my car on more than one occasion with nothing more than components from these boxes.

We have a huge selection of traditional tools, like the lathe that Chris is working on here. They were donated to us by a client of Enventys. His father was a successful independent inventor and did everything out of his garage. He passed away and his son wanted to see his father’s tools live on somewhere that they’d be appreciated. And we appreciate them every day!

Speaking of high-tech, I just realized that we didn’t have any photos of our new 3D printers from 3D Systems. I just shot this on my iPhone so it’s not nearly as beautiful as the others but here are a few of the latest and greatest 3D printers:

This would be a great time to send a shout-out to our very own Daniel Cordero for his excellent photography. Daniel shot all of these photos (with the exception of my grainy iPhone 3D printer photo) over a few days around the office. Thanks Daniel!

Jason, as far as I know room 5 is only viewable for 24 hours (2PM Thursday (est) to 2PM Friday (est)). Once it’s gone it’s gone.

OMG!! Chris you should have stayed home with the kids and roasted marshmellows.

Here in Florida a little nippy, 61 Degrees. I have the heat on.

Boy do I wish that I had the foresight to take pics of me driving out of the Wenachee forest in the motorhome when I did. I was trying to beat a snowstorm out but got caught in the middle of it. I had to chain up and pray for the wind gods to stop blowing my 32 foot sail off the mountain. On the gravel roads it was fine but when I hit the flat top did I get white knuckles. Thank heaven for the set of 19.5 traction tires I found for free on craigslist and the school bus they came off of. Sure did outperform my stock street tires on the old girl.

The ranger said that if I didn’t get off the mountain when I did I would have snow up to the windows. Plus a nice fine for not moving after the 14 day limit…

I’m shivering just looking at that pic Chris… All that wind swept snow makes me cringe. I have to get some chains for the front end before I see the white stuff again.

Huh… Michigan says chains are okay so why not use them when you need to? I wish that I had studded tires all around but that would kill me to buy 6 tires when I am parked most of the winter. I am going to look into the Auto Sock for a backup as they are cheaper and I can use on ice.

MCL 257.710 of the Michigan Vehicle Code covers the use of tire chains, and states that a person may “use a tire chain of reasonable proportion upon a vehicle when required for safety because of snow, ice, or other condition tending to cause a vehicle to skid.” If used, the chain must not come in contact with the surface of the roadway.

Then of what use are the chains ?!?!

In order to install chains don’t they have to cross over the tire tread at atleast three of four locations?

I think they mean, they can’t be used on bare pavement…only used if the pavement has snow or ice on it.

Eye ball frostbite usually occurs from over exertion as in rolling of the eyes, rubbernecking at an accident and so on, but sometimes it can arise from the exact opposite (No movement at all). Over here we call it stink eye. It’s that nasty stare you get from someone if you are not all they expected. But the good news is that there is a cure. It is a simple thing really. All we have to is change the way we look at things.

Not able to access
I am being asked to upgrade to insider?

We checked your account and everything seems to be in order for you to view Room 5. Were you logged into your account when you attempted to view it? You must be logged in to access it.

I am also being asked to upgrade even though I am already an insider.

I also was asked to upgrade even though I am an insider and I was logged in but it was on my iPhone. After a few attempts and some frustration I decided to wait and try to log in from my computer when I got home and then it worked. Hope this helps!

Yes, I’m in now, on my PC but not through phone – I’m not able to get in from my iphone (I’ve had a number of issues accessing the EN site from my iphone recently) – and yes logged in at the time.

I can’t access Room 5. Looks like there have been some UI changes to EN site.. Looks really nice, thanks. But I am guessing that’s the reason I can’t access Room 5 too?

Same problem here. Says I’m not an Insider and is asking me to upgrade. I’m also a Mac user. Love the new email, but the changes must have messed up some other settings.

For those of you who are having problems, how do you get to Room 5?

I haven’t been able to access room 5 either. (same problem as Margaret and the other Mac/Safari users) I emailed for support once but the website I was told to try didn’t work either.
As an insider, I really enjoyed EN’s former monthly insiders broadcasts and the ability to
view them for an extended period of time. (as opposed to the limited 24hour window of room5) Sadly, I won’t always be available to watch room 5 within a 24 hour window.

I know EN is working on a solution to help us . Thank you!!!!!!

I’m on a Mac and use Safari as my primary browser. I access Room 5 by iPad, iPhone and my Mac every week and have never had a problem. I’m wondering if we have a rogue link somewhere that is tripping people up. Most who have not been able to access can usually access it.

How do you attempt to access it Susan? Is there an email you have bookmarked with a link or do you click the button on the red bar on your dashboard or do you access it via the insiders page, or from a blog post, etc…?

How about the rest of you who have had problems accessing it?

We’d love to track this down and come up with a solution.

I just tried to access Room 5 from my iPhone and I am getting the same message as last week saying that I need to upgrade to an insider membership. I took a screenshot of it but then realized that I have no idea how I would post it lol. Guess I’ll have to try from my laptop when I get home.

Bummers for those having difficulties. Just so EN staff has some kind of benchmark…

I’m on a PC using IE 11, and am able to access either from the red bar on my Dashboard or from the link in the “Insider’s Lounge”.

I am also having trouble accessing room 5 I am a insider but when I click the link it says must upgrade to be a insider to go to room 5 .. Earlier last night I could not log in so I created a new account to get ahold of someone to help with that issue now room 5 is giving me trouble .. Could my issue be because of the new account ? I’m afraid to cancel the new account in fear of loosing my primary one ..

On my iPhone using safari I was, and am still receiving the same message. However, when I use google chrome for iPhone it works perfectly. It’s a quick download and it’s free

Problems with iPhone/Safari – Yes. I’m logged in when I’m asked to become an insider. No problems with Google on PC. I can see submissions and post but not get to Room 5

I’m good now. Got in no problem on my mac. This time I followed the link on the home page. Last time I clicked the link that was in the email, and that’s when I couldn’t get in. However, I just clicked that link again and it works.

How’s everybody doing? Able to get into Room 5 with no problems this week? If you are having a problem and you are absolutely certain that you’re logged in on your device, post right here what device you’re using and what process you took to get to Room 5 (clicked a link in an email, clicked the red bar on the dashboard, clicked the “Insiders” tab in the navigation, etc…).

Make sure you use the device that you’re having trouble with to post your comment here that you’re having trouble. If the system asks you to log in before you can post, that means you aren’t logged in. Log in and then try to get to Room 5 again and you should be able to get to it.

Hi; I’m pretty new to EN but have made a submission that’s now G2 — woot! woot! — and trying to learn/see all that I can while I wait and work up other ideas.

I saw yesterday’s Room 5 announcements yesterday, but when I came back today to take another look, I can’t find them — is it like Snapchat — they disappear soon after viewing? Did I need to copy/paste the info or do a screen shot? Am I looking in the wrong spot. Very likely noob behavior / operator error on my part, but appreciate gratuitous help. Can someone ’splain how it works? Thanks in advance!

OK thanks Todd/Kathleen — at risk of violating “Fight Club” rules — we don’t talk about Fight Club : ), how does an Insider participate in the opportunities shared in Room 5? Assume they eventually become more broadly announced and I will get another look then? Again, thanks for responses!

I really enjoyed Room 5 last night, it’s great that EN looks to its community for feedback it shows that EN cares.

I left a question pretty late and didn’t get a chance to get back to see if I got a response.

Jeffrey, one of the advantages to being an “Insider” is that we are sometimes told about searches before they are announced to regular EN members and the general public. When this happens, the Sponsored Search should show up for Insiders among the other currently available searches when he/she clicks on the “submit an idea” tab at the top of this page. This won’t be visible for non-Insiders until a general announcement regarding the sponsored search is declared by EN.
As far as other information presented in Room 5, you have to take advantage of reading it when the room is open for the one day a week. That opportunity to read is usually available into Friday for a short while as well I believe.

The first rule of room 5 is that we dont talk about room 5……lol

Outta bored curiosity I ventured to the beginning of this thread and found some treasures! Pictures of EN’s workshop from 3D printers, waterjets, electric meters to old donated mills and lathes… oh what I would do to get a chance to play in that shop. EN is truely where dreams are made.

@ Jonathan…..You are not along, now to think of the fun we would have? What about Thomas Edison if he was still alive today, what kind of fun do you think he would be having? Not to mention what other great ideas he might would come up with?

Ok…I’m taking it to the Lounge!

In visiting Room5 (Rm5) this week it occurred to me how much Rm5 has advanced since its inception. Early on, the contributors to Rm5 were struggling to get a handle on what Rm5’s content would be and how Rm5 was going to function and in that early struggle the information presented was accurate but difficult to digest by beginners and amateurs. (It is extremely difficult to bridge the information gap between expert/professional and amateur/newbie.)

But since that beginning the content has been consistently easy to read, easy to understand and just plain “ I get it !” quality. The content flows seamlessly from beginning to end, its meaning is easily absorbed by the reader and every reader takes away something positive from their visit.
