Pies I will eat today: Pumpkin pie, pot pie, pizza pie

Pies I will not: Mud pie, magpie, magnum p.i.

Blueberry, Key Lime Pie, all pies.

Well, I for one am miffed. The newspapers are reporting it as “3.141592653” and to all people in the know, if you’re going to cut off the rest of the digits, that last digit should be a “4” not a “3”

Even the American Mathematical Society’s Public Awareness Officer (and what a grueling job that must be) did not appear to correct them.

PLEASE ACT FAST – at 9:23:54AM (sorry, its too late East Coast) and then again at PM we can really uncork the champagne.

Bob … I’d just poured a cup of coffee and was sitting here waiting to celebrate. If not for your analysis of the situation I would have started my celebration to early…… that was close!! Thanks!!!

Pi to the 32ndth place is accurate enough to calculate a circle the size of the observable universe to within one hydrogen atom. Beyond that there are no more significant figures.

Unless you count winning a pi reciting contest significant…then there are MANY!

We had cherry pie yesterday in honor of pie day cuz it was all they had left at Costco. Fun fact. Did you know that the first pie in the face in a movie was thrown by comedy actress Mabel Normand?? Back in the 1910s.

Pi has been around a lot longer than many of us know. To wit:

A Unified Field Theory
Postulate One
If the diameter of the universe is 1 ("1 universe") then the circumference of the universe is Pi
(Circumference = Pi D) 

Postulate Two
If the circumference of the universe is Pi (written as a number) then the universe is infinite*

 
Postulate Three
If the universe is infinite then every point is the center of the universe

*"Pi" is used here as a "transcendental number" which does not represent a quantifiable measurement. Transcendental Pi represents a "symbol of the universe" because both Pi and the universe contain infinite "strings" of non-repeating patterns which produce no two "things" (significant sequences) that are virtually identical.

I've always found the concept of infinite to be confusing ... so I don't dwell on it much. With that said it would seem to me for "Postulate three" that if something was truly infinite then there would be no center ... as it couldn't be measured .... but I can see where everyone is in the center of what they can observe in an infinite universe!

My brother made a half peach, half apple pie.
