Developing an idea/invention

geek84's Avatar

Hi Folks

I have an idea for an invention but not sure if it is possible in reality. i.e. A lot of us might like the invention of cars which can fly like aeroplanes, but at present it is not possible.

So, my question is,how do I find out if my idea/invention can work in practice and how can I find out if that idea is already patented?

I have heard of the website espacenet which has a lot of info regarding patents, is this the best website to go to in order to find out if the idea’s already patented?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Hi Manjinder and welcome to Edison Nation!

If you are interested in having our review team evaluate your idea for potential licensing opportunities, we invite you to review our process by clicking here: www.edisonnation.com/faq. You are then welcome to submit your idea to any one of our applicable searches for consideration.

Best of luck!

Manjinder, To answer your questions:
“how do I find out if my idea/invention can work in practice”? Make a prototype and test it.
“how can I find out if that idea is already patented”? Do a patent search starting with Google patent search. There are a number of sources to do the patent search and I am not sure if there is such a thing as “the best website” for the patent search. If it gives you want you need, then it is useful.
