Otc or rx medications.

crystaldiane's Avatar

hi everyone I am reaching out to see if any of any experience creating product enhancements in the very complex area of rx or medications over-the-counter medications. Without going into too much detail does anyone have any comments on potential pitfalls if one has an idea that would be embraced this Market? Or are such things so riddled with regulations it is not realistic to pursue....Thank you

If you buy a 3 cent bottle with a 4 cent cap and a 2 cent label, then fill it with sugar pills; you can give them away as "free samples: just pay shipping and handling".

Three letters come to mind: F. D. A.

That in itself is a monumental hurdle both monetarily and politically. Nothing gets approved unless you are part of the 'in-crowd' that they approve of.  You also need plenty o' money to even play the game. There are more than enough examples of corruption and deceit at that organization to sink a ship.

Don't get me started, trying to keep my blood pressure down!  : )

If the "in crowd" refers to clinical scientists with many years of training in biochemical and clinical research fields, then I agree that people outside of that description should not be allowed to "invent" medications of any sort.  Personally, I'm glad that's the case.

Honestly..ive an idea that makes sense and solves a big problem...its not medication or a drug....nothing of the sort...simply something for people that need meds to make things a bit easier....that said...us it even worth the effort for someone outside this space to try?  id like to know if anyone independant has actually got any thing real to market in this space. I think fda too....ideas or nix it?

Anything ingested* will have to clear strict safety hurdles, which is very expensive and time consuming.  Maybe present the idea to a company that makes a product that would be used with your idea... otherwise, it probably wouldn't be worth the headache.

*Ingested means by any means... oral, sublingual, eye drops, skin creams, etc.

Crystal  .... I usually look up what I don't have knowledge of so I don't fill my memory bank up with to much worthless info. Try doing a google search "What needs FDA approval" and then look for the FDA post titled "Consumer updates> is it really FDA Approved?" The FDA operates differently that I assumed they did concerning guidelines for many products. I'm not sure your product would require their approval but I would think you probably could ask them.

Ah, this is a good suggestion Archie  - this one is just SO Far out of my water I thought I would start here assembling some of the questions that need to be asked.  Im entrenched in my current project but this 'idea' decided to pop into my head.  So here I am starting with a new one (again) but like almost all of my other ideas I started with no prior knowledge of the 'market' just the 'problem' and my version of a solution.  Just trying to get pointed in the right direction thats all....
