Selecting a submission category

buffdon's Avatargold

Is there a good or suggested process to use when submitting a product that may fit into more than one category search? I'm looking at dates and best fit, but I'm still not sure if one way is any better than another. Thanks for your help and ideas in advance!

Darlene, the 'All Catagory' is there for concepts whose category is somewhat ambiguous. However, if a concept properly fits into multiple categories pick the category that the concept BEST fits into and submit it there, and then (as an 'Insider') simply opt into the other categories that the concept also fits into.

Thanks William. I wasn’t sure what opting in was but with your info I searched the FAQs and found it, so thank you for your help!

Can you opt into other searches while still active in the original search? For instance could I opt into an Everyday Edison search if I’ve currently submitted the same idea into the Levinsohn search?

Hi Darlene, I understand looking at "best fit" to pick a category, but I'm not sure what you mean by looking at "dates" to pick a category.

Also, keep in mind that although you can opt in an idea into multiple searches for free as an Insider, you can not opt in to multiple "categories" within the same search.  You can only pick one categories.  If you want to do multiple categories then, you'd need to pay for each new category.  Off the top of my head, I can't imagine why someone would want to do this though.

Thanks Derrick. By dates, I just wondered If there was any benefit to taking into consideration the date the search closed, but that may not really matter if each submission is looked at separately. I didn’t realize we could use the opt in before this post, so that’s another great Insider benefit!

I found this blog and it was very helpful. I wish I read it first! Maybe it will be helpful to some others too!
